Complete and ready-to-use. This deluxe kit includes a 7-lb sounding lead with a pre-spliced and pre-tagged leadline measuring 30 fathoms total (180-ft). It also includes a traditional canvas ditty bag for storage, plus a complete set of spare marker-tags, seizing twine and beeswax. 

In accordance with NSTM 581 2.6 specifications, the marker-tags are distinguishable from each other (even at night), and are positioned at the following intervals: 

2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, and 25 fathoms

Each kit is built at our rigging shop using premium quality "spun dacron" New England Rope (USA), which is spliced and seized at both ends. The individual marker-tags are tucked into the lead line and then handsewn/seized into place to prevent slippage.

WHAT IS NSTM? The Naval Ships’ Technical Manual (NSTM) provides technical information to personnel engaged in the supervision, operation, or maintenance of ships of the United States Navy. The various chapters and volumes of the NSTM contain detailed administrative and technical instructions that amplify U.S. Navy Regulations and other authoritative documents. These instructions are designed to assist afloat personnel in the satisfactory management of ships and shipboard equipment in order to achieve optimum performance throughout each ship’s life cycle and to ensure readiness for any assigned mission.

Additionally, under the US Coast Guard policy framework, a "public vessel" which is not subject to mandatory inspection may opt to voluntarily adhere to NSTM standards and regulations that would not otherwise be applicable.
